Congress leader Rahul Gandhi conducted a roadshow on Wednesday in Wayanad, Kerala, where he is seeking re-election in the Lok Sabha. Thousands of party supporters and workers gathered for the roadshow in Sultan Bathery, Wayanad. Riding in an open vehicle, he greeted the crowd amidst chants supporting him and the Congress party.

Rahul, who arrived in the state for a two-day tour, is also scheduled to hold a rally for the United Democratic Front (UDF) in Kozhikode in the evening and participate in various programs in his constituency.

Kerala, with all its 20 constituencies going to the polls on April 26 in the second phase of the Lok Sabha election, is witnessing intense political activities. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also conducting campaign rallies in the state today, attending two public meetings in Thiruvananthapuram and Thrissur.

In this election, Rahul Gandhi faces competition from CPI’s Annie Raja and BJP’s state president, K Surendran. In the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, Rahul secured a significant victory from Wayanad, with a margin of over 4.31 lakh votes, marking the highest margin in Kerala. He obtained a vote share of 64.94 percent, defeating LDF candidate PP Suneer. The NDA candidate Tushar Vellapally secured only around 78,000 votes, accounting for a mere 7.25 percent.

The Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) won 19 out of 20 seats in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls. While the Congress secured 15 seats, its allies, including the Indian Union Muslim League and the Revolutionary Socialist Party, won two seats each, and the Kerala Congress (M) secured one seat. The Communist Party of India (Marxist) won one seat in Alappuzha.
