Many people set the date of their weddings well in advance of the Election Commission’s announcement regarding the Assembly election schedule. Not everyone chose to forgo being inked before to getting married, though. On their wedding day, brides and grooms in their best attire can be seen at their separate polling places casting their ballots.

Another example of this can be observed at a polling place when a groom shows up to vote in the Maharashtra Lok Sabha elections at his assigned polling place in the Vadarpura neighbourhood of Amravati. The state’s second round of Lok Sabha elections is being held in eight parliamentary constituencies.

Akash seems to have a deep understanding of the importance of both voting and marriage. He highlights how exercising the right to vote is integral to democracy, as it allows citizens to have a say in their governance and helps ensure competent leadership. Just as individuals seek partners who can contribute to a fulfilling life, choosing capable leaders through voting can lead to effective governance and a better society. By emphasizing the significance of both voting and marriage, Akash underscores the role of personal and civic responsibilities in shaping a brighter future.

“The wedding ceremony is important but so is voting. The wedding is at 2pm today,” says Akash, the groom in Vadarpura area of Amravati.

Akash has quite the busy day ahead! Both the wedding ceremony and voting are significant events, each in their own way. Hopefully, he and his soon-to-be spouse can celebrate their love and still find time to participate in the democratic process.

The voting for the second phase of Lok Sabha Elections 2024 is taking place today, April 26. The voting is being held in 88 Lok Sabha constituencies across 13 states and union territories. The regions include – Assam, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Jammu and Kashmir, Kerala, Manipur, Bihar, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, and Tripura.
