The Supreme Court agreed on Monday to hear Manish Sisodia’s bail application in the liquor policy scam case on 14 July.
On July 14, a bench led by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud consented to hear the Sisodia petition. Senior Advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, representing Sisodia, stated that his wife is ill and requested an urgent listing.
Manish Sisodia, the Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi, has applied to the Supreme Court for bail in CBI and ED proceedings involving alleged irregularities in the Delhi Excise Policy matter. He has appealed the Delhi High Court’s decision to deny his bail application.
The Delhi High Court recently denied him bail in both cases. The Delhi High Court stated in its judgement issued on July 3, 2023, in the ED case, that the prospect of influencing witnesses cannot be ruled out due to the accused’s high political positions and his position in the party in power in Delhi.
During arguments, the CBI had opposed the bail plea moved by Manish Sisodia and stated, “The applicant (Sisodia) enjoys close nexus with the executive, offices and bureaucrats and his influence and clout is evident. His party colleagues holding high ranks continue to make factually wrong claims in order to influence the investigation and also claim the applicant to be a victim of a political vendetta.”
The CBI arrested Sisodia in February 2023 for suspected irregularities in the formulation and implementation of Delhi’s new tax policy. The policy was withdrawn after the Opposition accused the government of wrongdoing. He is currently being held in judicial custody.
According to the CBI, Sisodia played the most crucial and vital part in the criminal conspiracy, and he was deeply involved in both the creation and implementation of the aforementioned policy to assure the achievement of the conspiracy’s aims.
