Akshay Oberoi: I Want to Redo All My Roles, There Is No Satisfaction In Creativity | Exclusive

Akshay Oberoi recently received positive reviews for his performance in ‘The Broken News Season 2’, which premiered on Zee5. The intense drama featured him in a new avatar and gave him ample scope to showcase his abilities. The series also helped the actor, who has previously appeared on shows such as ‘Illegal’ and ‘Flesh’, further consolidate his standing in the OTT space.

In an exclusive interview with The Daily Guardian, Akshay looked back on his professional journey and said that he wants to redo all his roles as “there is no satisfaction in creativity”. He also said shed light on the process behind preparing for his role in ‘The Broken News Season 2’

Edited excerpts from the interview:

What made you give the nod to ‘The Broken News Season 2’?

The first reason was the director Vinay Waikul. I had worked with him years ago on ‘The Test Case’. It is always great to work with people you worked with previously. It gives you an opportunity to focus on the actual shoot as you don’t have to spend time knowing the other person. Then, of course this is a successful show. Who would not want to be part of it? It was a no-brainer.

How did you prepare for the role?

I wanted the character to look completely different from the ones I played previously. That’s why I curled my hair. I also added an American accent to the character. This was fun as I grew up the US. I have also met people like my character in real life and drew on such experiences while working on ‘The Broken News Season 2’.

How did you channel the character’s grey shades?

The key here was to believe in the character and not judge him.

How different an experience was ‘The Broken News Season 2’ from ‘Illegal’?

The character here is completely different from what I did on other shows, especially ‘Illegal’. The two characters probably went to different schools and met different people. Akshay from ‘Illegal’ was quite ‘bhola bhaala’ (innocent). The character in ‘The Broken News’ isn’t. He is actually more like Piyush Mishra’s character from that series.

Are there any roles you would want to revisit?

I would want to do all roles that I have done till now again and differently. There is no satisfaction in creativity. There never can be. The day you feel ‘maine badhiya kaam kiya hai’ your growth stops. So, I would want to redo all my roles.

Have you ever felt that the response to a role did not do justice to your performance?

I don’t mean to sound arrogant but there has never been a role of mine that people did not say good things about. However, for that to happen, I need to be critical of my work. So I am never satisfied
