Sunny Deol Returns As ‘Fauji’ In ‘Border 2’ After 27 Years

Bollywood star Sunny Deol announced “Border 2” on the 27th anniversary of the 1997 blockbuster. Dubbed “India’s biggest war film,” it will be directed by Anurag Singh of “Kesari” fame. Original director JP Dutta will produce alongside his daughter Nidhi Dutt, with Bhushan Kumar and Krishan Kumar producing under T-Series.

Sunny Deol shared the announcement teaser of “Border 2” on his official X page. “Ek fauji apne 27 saal purane waade ko pura karne, aa raha hai phirse. India’s biggest war film, Border 2. Produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, JP Dutta and Nidhi Dutta will be directed by Anurag Singh #TSeries #JPFilms,” the actor wrote.

Released on June 13, 1997, “Border” depicted the Battle of Longewala during the 1971 India-Pakistan War. The film featured an ensemble cast including Suniel Shetty, Jackie Shroff, Akshaye Khanna, Sudesh Berry, and Puneet Issar, with supporting roles from Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Tabu, Raakhee, Pooja Bhatt, and Sharbani Mukherjee.

Being one of the highest-grossing films of 1997, the film’s popularity was boosted by its songs, written by Javed Akhtar and composed by Anu Malik. Tracks Sandese Aate Hain, Ae Jaate Hue Lamhon, and Mere Dushman, Mere Bhai continue to be popular.

“Border” also clinched three National Film Awards: Best Film on National Integration, Best Lyricist for Javed Akhtar, and Best Playback Singer (Male) for Hariharan’s “Mere Dushman, Mere Bhai.”
