Authorities in Argentina have ruled out suicide in the tragic death of former One Direction star Liam Payne, confirming that his fatal fall from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires on October 16 was an accident. According to the official investigation, the 31-year-old singer’s death resulted from multiple injuries consistent with a fall from the third-floor balcony.
While the cause of death has been determined as a fall, the investigation revealed that Payne had multiple substances in his system at the time. Hotel staff had earlier reported to the police about an “aggressive” man who appeared to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol shortly before the incident.
The investigation into Payne’s death has led to charges against three individuals close to the singer. These charges include “abandonment of a person followed by death” and “supply and facilitating the use of narcotics.” However, none of the suspects have been arrested as of yet. They face restrictions, including a prohibition on leaving Argentina. One suspect had a professional relationship with Payne, another was an employee at the hotel, and the third is accused of providing the substances found in Payne’s system.
Liam Payne was widely known for his time as a member of the immensely successful boy band One Direction. The band rose to fame after their appearance on “The X Factor” in 2010 and became one of the best-selling music acts in history. Payne continued his music career after the band went on hiatus in 2016, releasing his debut solo album “LP1” in 2019.
