Senior Congress leader and national spokesperson, Abhishek Manu Singhvi, said that the issue of who will lead the opposition parties in the 2024 elections was an ‘irrelevant digression’ which was being deliberately over emphasised by the BJP.

According to Singhvi, the unity that was displayed by opposition leaders today will continue till the May 2024 elections and will result in the victory of the Opposition parties.

“The leadership issue (on who will be the leader of the opposition parties) is an irrelevant digression, deliberately over emphasised by the BJP. What we have seen today is both a picture and a trailer for 2024”, Singhvi said while addressing a press briefing.

Singhvi was speaking after leaders of 14 parties met at a breakfast meeting that was called by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi at the Constitutional club where he asked all the opposition parties to unite their force to defeat the BJP.

“Whether it is the issue of Pegasus, price rise, or farm laws the Opposition will remain united. This is a trailer to 2024, it is a historic day. You will see the results of this unity in the form of victory in the 2024 elections”, Singhvi emphasized while adding that 14 political parties are together on these issues.

The parties that attended the breakfast meeting and cycle march on Tuesday morning include Congress, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), Shiv Sena, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Samajwadi Party (SP), CPI, CPI(M), IUML, Trinamool Congress, Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP), Kerala Congress (M), Loktantrik Janata Dal (LJD), Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), National Conference, and DMK. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) did not attend the meeting.

Responding to AAP and BSP giving a miss to the gathering, Singhvi said, “AAP BSP, all parties are united on these issues and there is no differences among them”, he said.

On the question of who will be the opposition leader, the noted lawyer, said that the question was not even discussed. “The main point is that the opposition is united and that is why the BJP is scared”, he said.
