In a bid to ensure seamless arrangements for the upcoming Shri Amarnathji Yatra-2024, Labour Commissioner of Jammu and Kashmir, Charandeep Singh, led a crucial preparatory meeting with officials from the Labour Department. The meeting, held in Jammu on Wednesday, focused on streamlining the registration process for service providers who play a pivotal role in facilitating the pilgrimage to the Holy Cave of Shri Amarnathji.
Accompanied by Deputy Labour Commissioners and Assistant Labour Commissioners from various districts including Ganderbal, Srinagar, Anantnag, Reasi, Doda, Kishwar, Ramban, Udhampur, and Rajouri, detailed discussions were conducted regarding the Action Plan-2024.
Addressing the gathering, the Labour Commissioner emphasized the crucial role of the Labour Department in ensuring the smooth conduct of the yatra. He urged officials to gear up for the timely and hassle-free registration of service providers, including Ponywalas, Palkiwalas, Pithuwalas, and Dandiwalas, who hail from different districts of Jammu and Kashmir.
The Labour Commissioner outlined the department’s commitment to facilitating advance registration of service providers, both in their native districts and at designated camps in Ganderbal and Anantnag. He stressed the importance of coordinating efforts with the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board (SASB) and relevant district administrations to ensure the timely issuance of RFID cards to registered service providers.
Furthermore, it was highlighted that effective coordination with other line departments is essential to safeguard the interests of contract workers engaged in various yatra-related activities. The Labour Department will collaborate closely with principal employers to ensure compliance with labor laws pertaining to wages, working hours, and basic amenities for contract workers.
During the previous yatra in 2023, the Labour Department successfully registered 32,819 service providers, including Ponywalas, Palki/Dandiwalas, and Pithuwalas. Registration camps were established across strategic locations in districts like Ganderbal and Anantnag to facilitate the process and ensure comprehensive coverage.
As preparations intensify for the Shri Amarnathji Yatra-2024, the Labour Department remains committed to its mandate of ensuring the welfare and safety of all involved in this sacred pilgrimage.
