Enduring weeks of scorching heat, Kolkata might witness rain, as IMD (India Meteorological Department) has forecasted a week-long rain in the coming week.

In the following days, from May 6 to May 8, rain or thundershowers with gusty winds will be witnessed. In May 10 and 11, the sky is expected to be cloudy accompanied by a chance of rain or thunderstorms. However, on May 9, there are no specified weather conditions.

The IMD has further predicted that the expected thunderstorm may lower temperatures to normal levels, potentially providing relief from the heatwave to the city’s residents.

Earlier on Thursday, regions of South Bengal, including North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas, Purba Midnapore, and Paschim Midnapore, witnessed light rainfall with thunder.

Despite the anticipated relief, the city continues to grapple with a heatwave, with temperatures persistently soaring high, reaching up to 47 degrees Celsius on Thursday.

Six districts of West Bengal continue to remain under red alert. These districts include Paschim Midnipur, Jhagram, Bankura, Purba, Paschim Bardhaman and Birbhum. These conditions are expected to be like that till Tuesday.
