On Sunday night, La Liga’s table tops FC Barcelona made a 2-1 comeback against their arch rivals Real Madrid, here at Camp Nou in Barcelona, Spain. After the match, Barca have achieved an unreached 12 points leads.
In the initial 10 minutes at Camp Nou, Real Madrid took an early lead after Vinicius Jr. cross deflected off defender Ronald Araujo and went inside the post. But, Barca showed the fighting intent and finished the first half with a close range goal by Sergi Roberto in the 45th minute.
In the second half, Barca kept trying to clinch the match and as they did. In the additional time, Alejando Balde raced down the left channel and crossed to Franck Kessie who unleashed an unstoppable first touch goal to give Barca a clean win.
The fresh legs of Barcelona’s Gavi and Frenkie de Jong became a challenge for the Real Madrid’s defence. The duo took things in and out of possession for Barcelona that puts them on the edge of winning the La Liga 2023 title.
The Blaugrana spent the remainder of the first half in control of proceedings. De Jong was a the centre of ti all, making driving runs forward and firing arrowed passes into the feet of Robert Lewandowski. The leveller eventually came moments before the interval, with Sergi Roberto capitalising on a series of deflections to lash the ball home from 10 yards out.
Benzema latched onto a wayward pass from Jules Kounde in the 79th mintute. The French striker took two steps before shooting towards goal. But, he miscued his effort, sending it trickling into the arms of Marc- Ander ter Stegen.
Real Madrid fans abhor Gavi. Barcelona fans adore him. Today, it was easy to see why. The midfielder wasn’t particularly classy against Real. He didn’t create a single chance and didn’t get into the box as much as Xavi perhaps would have liked. Instead, he spent nearly 90 minutes making life horrible for Madrid players. He shoved Dani Carvajal in the chest, bumped Dani Ceballas over, and got away with at least one yellow card offence. There was also a blatant dlive, and a series of trips and shoves. It was a very un-Barcelona performance, a dirty-work showing that this team isn’t used to.
