Wayanad, Kerala: A massive wildfire broke out in the Moolankavu locality of Muthanga, Wayanad, on a scorching Thursday afternoon, causing shockwaves throughout the surrounding area. According to eyewitnesses and reports from local officials, the fire quickly consumed a large area of about 20 kilometers, which included portions of the surrounding forest and a rubber plantation.

The incident occurred in the bamboo-rich forest near Moolankavu in Sultan Bathery and was ascribed to rising mercury levels and dry circumstances. Strong winds caused the fire to spread swiftly, posing a threat to the safety of firemen and other rescue workers.

Fortunately, no casualties have been recorded as of the most recent updates. Residents, authorities, and the fire department all responded quickly to help limit the fire to some degree. Despite the difficult circumstances, teams are working nonstop to completely put out the flames and stop them from spreading.

Authorities ensured that precautions have been taken to protect residential areas from the advancing fire front. The situation is still fluid, though, and it is not yet clear how much damage has been done.
As things develop, more information on the damage evaluation is expected to be released.
