On Wednesday, police detained a 23-year-old male IT worker for reportedly entering a women’s restroom in a famous mall while wearing a burqa and capturing their films on his cell phone.

The incident occurred in Kochi’s famed Lulu Mall. According to authorities, the accused, who works for a big IT firm in the Infopark here, wore a burqa and entered a women’s restroom, where he placed his phone.

According to the authorities, he placed his phone in a little cardboard box, drilled a hole in it for the camera to record visuals, and taped it to the washroom door. According to authorities, after putting the camera, the suspect exited and stood in front of the washroom’s main entrance.

The mall’s security workers reported his suspicious behavior to police, who arrived and questioned the accused, according to the officer. According to authorities, questioning revealed that he had disguised himself as a lady and was recording the happenings in the restroom on his mobile phone.

Following that, the accused’s burqa and cell phone were seized, and he was arrested. The officer stated that investigations were underway to see whether the accused had committed similar crimes in the past.

The accused, a B.Tech graduate, was arrested on the same day for violating sections 354(C) (Voyeurism) and 419 (Impersonation) of the IPC, as well as Section 66 E of the Information Technology Act.

He was subsequently brought before a local court, which sentenced him to 14 days in judicial imprisonment, according to an officer from the Kalamassery police station.
