On Sunday, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal inaugurated the redeveloped Chandni Chowk. The Chief Minister said that broken roads, traffic jams, and hanging electric wires used to be the image of Chandni Chowk but now people from all over Delhi were coming to see how beautiful Chandni Chowk had become. There are many other plans to develop this entire stretch that has been developed as a tourist destination. Street food will be allowed in this redeveloped area for visitors.

The Delhi government has been working on the redevelopment and beautification of Chandni Chowk for the last three years.

Talking to the media, Arvind Kejriwal said, “This entire redeveloped stretch from Red Fort to Fatehpuri Masjid is about 1.4 km. This entire stretch has been made beautiful. Traffic problems have been fixed. CCTV cameras have been installed everywhere. All the hanging electric wires have been made underground. In a way, now it has become the most important tourist destination of Delhi. Now if anyone comes to Delhi, he will first come to see Chandni Chowk. We have many more plans to develop this entire stretch as a tourist destination. In the coming days, one by one all those schemes will be put in place. Chandni Chowk is being developed as a tourist destination”.

“People come here even at midnight. It has become a tourist destination in a way. Street food will be allowed here till midnight for visitors to this place. When the market is closed, street food giants will be opened here. We will not let the people face any problem. Wherever we find a problem, we will find a solution at the local level,” he added.

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said that plans are being made to repair the drainage system of not only Chandni Chowk, but the entire Delhi. “We have inherited the drainage system of Delhi. What has been a bad drainage system for so many years, it cannot be fixed in two years. We are planning to fix the drainage system of the entire Delhi. I assure that after a few years, the process of waterlogging and flooding of roads during rains in Delhi will end soon and there will be no water logging inside Delhi, but it will take some time,” he said.
