Members of the Global Kashmiri Pandit Diaspora (GKPD) staged a protest at Jantar Mantar, demanding justice for the atrocities that the Kashmiri Pandits have suffered.

In the demonstration, many Kashmiri Pandits from the country and abroad participated, including the Congress MP Vivek Tankha.

“There will be protests if justice is not served. Lakhs of people fled the Valley, many were killed, women were raped, and houses were burnt to ashes. But was anyone punished?” Tankha pointed out.

Tankha appealed to the MPs of all parties to introduce a private Bill related to genocide, rehabilitation of Kashmiri Pandits in the Rajya Sabha, the Upper House of Parliament on 17 March 2022.

In the demonstration organised by GKPD, Dr Surendra Kaul, who came from America, said that even after the passage of more than 3 decades, no one was convicted, nor did anyone take any concrete steps towards the cause.

Kaul raised this issue with the Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Houston during the latter’s US tour. Hopefully, PM Modi will do something for them, Kaul said.

The Kashmir issue has once again gained momentum after the release of the Vivek Agnihotri-directed Bollywood film ‘The Kashmir Files’. Kaul highly praised the film as it depicts the genocide of Kashmiri Pandits.

The International Coordinator of this organization Utpal Kaul said that hundreds of Kashmiri Pandits were put to death, but till date no accused have been punished. He demanded the formation of a tribunal for investigation and proper rehabilitation of the victims. In support of these Kashmiri Pandits, non-Kashmiris also joined from several states including Madhya Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
