In a horrifying incident, police detained a textile merchant from Chikkaballapur’s Chintamani for reportedly cutting his friend’s neck and consuming his blood on the belief that the latter was having an affair with his wife.

The culprit, Vijay, was detained on Sunday, while the victim, Maresh, who survived, is being treated at a nearby hospital. The incident occurred a week ago in the desolate Siddepally Cross area of Chintamani Taluk.

On June 19, Vijay and his textile trader friend John brought Maresh to a distant location near Cross forest in Siddepally, where they beat him up before Vijay allegedly cut his neck with a knife and drank his blood.

John went viral after posting a video of the tragic incident on social media. On Sunday, the accused Vijay was apprehended by Kencharlahalli police. Vijay, John, and the victim Maresh are all cloth traders from Gandhinagar in the Chintamani taluk of Chikkaballapur.

Vijay suspected Maresh of cheating on his wife. According to authorities, Vijay was enraged and resolved to get his revenge when he chose to kill him. Maresh’s brother arrived on the scene and transported him to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Village elders later summoned both of them and resolved the dispute through Raji Panchayat Maresh’s brother reported the suspects Vijay and John to the Kencharlahalli police station.
According to police, necessary legal action is being taken in response to the viral video.
