The Karnataka High Court in the case Mohammad Ikbal And M. Maheshwar Rao observed and has informed the High Court that a public notice is published in local and national newspapers, wherein seeking information on availability of burial grounds in the villages.
The Division bench comprising of Justice B Veerappa and Justice Venkatesh Naik T in the case observed wherein an affidavit is filed by the Principal Secretary (Revenue Department) in the said regard.
The State stated after collecting the necessary information that the steps taken is to provide burial grounds to every village in the state of Karnataka, thus, the State seeking the time of two weeks for filing of the compliance report.
The court also observed that earlier the High Court had slammed the State government over lack of burial grounds in certain villages.
The court stated that this being a basic need, the burial ground and road and water. This is your duty, the Constitutional mandate, why are you not doing?
The court in the case observed wherein the petitioner names Moahmmed Ikbal filed a contempt plea for an action against alleged wilful disobedience of a 2019 order wherein it has been directed by the Coordinate Bench that the State Government is to take all possible steps in order to provide burial grounds to all the villages and towns within a period of six months.
Further, the bench stated that the court are virtually monitoring the progress in the matter and every two wees the court are hearing the matter.
Accordingly, the court listed the matter to be next heard on April 20, 2023.
