After the Lok Sabha poll results were announced, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, on Friday, made a strong pitch for Rahul Gandhi, a key leader of the party, to assume the crucial role of Leader of the Opposition in the Parliament.
Shivakumar said, “We want Rahul Gandhi as the Leader of the Opposition in the Parliament…Rahul Gandhi said to us today that we should win the hearts of people who didn’t vote for us.”
He added, “Today, in Bengaluru, Rahul Gandhi met MPs of the party who lost and won the polls. During the meeting, he emphasized the fact that we will continue to fight against the Central government.”
Earlier today, Gandhi, the leader of the Congress party, convened a crucial meeting with the party’s candidates who actively participated in the recent Lok Sabha polls. This significant gathering took place at the Congress Bhavan located in Bengaluru, highlighting the strategic importance of the discussions held therein.
During the meeting, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar were also in attendance, lending their insights and perspectives to the discussions
Given the favorable outcomes witnessed in the Lok Sabha polls, a growing clamor has emerged within the Congress party urging Gandhi to assume the position of Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in the parliament.
In the Lok Sabha polls held in Karnataka, the Congress party secured a total of nine seats, garnering a significant vote share of 45.43% among the electorate.
The Election Commission of India reports that the BJP secured 240 seats, a significant decrease from its 2019 count of 303. In contrast, the Congress party showed notable progress with 99 seats. Despite this, the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance won 292 seats, and the INDIA bloc exceeded 230 seats, presenting tough competition and surprising many observers by surpassing earlier predictions.
