Following the detention of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in the Delhi excise policy case, Sharmistha Mukherjee, daughter of former President Pranab Mukherjee, accused Kejriwal and the Anna Hazare group of leveling “irresponsible, baseless allegations” against then Delhi Chief Minister and Congress leader Sheila Dikshit. She emphasized that despite claims of possessing “trunk loads” of evidence against Dikshit, no such evidence has been made public. Mukherjee concluded her statement with the phrase “Karma catches up!”, suggesting repercussions for those who made unsubstantiated allegations.

“He & Anna Hazare gang were responsible for making most irresponsible, baseless & wild allegations against Congress including Sheila Dikshit ji saying he had ‘trunk loads’ of evidence against her. No one has seen the ‘trunk’ so far. Karma catches up!” she expressed in a post on X.

Earlier, Mukherjee revealed that she had been “viciously trolled allegedly by Congress supporters on social media” after criticizing the party and its leadership. She mentioned her concerns over the party’s direction, emphasizing the need for the Congress to look beyond the Gandhi-Nehru family for leadership.

Mukherjee also highlighted the Congress’s electoral losses in the last two Lok Sabha elections when Rahul Gandhi was the face of the party. Meanwhile, the Enforcement Directorate interrogated Kejriwal at his residence regarding the liquor policy case, leading to his arrest amid dramatic circumstances when he failed to secure interim protection from arrest from the Delhi High Court. AAP workers and leaders supported Kejriwal, while leaders of the INDIA bloc also backed him. BJP leaders, on the other hand, supported the actions of the Enforcement Directorate, stressing the importance of truth.

Delhi Minister and AAP leader Atishi criticized the BJP for politicizing the actions of the Enforcement Directorate, accusing them of undermining democracy. She urged the BJP to engage in fair political competition instead of using the ED as a political tool.
