In Madhya Pradesh, the Congress may once again face a situation similar to 2020. There are indications of internal rifts in the party, similar to what happened in Maharashtra. According to sources, former Chief Minister Kamal Nath has requested a Rajya Sabha seat from the party for himself. If the party does not accede to his request, sources suggest that Kamal Nath’s supporters, numbering more than two dozen legislators, may take any anti-party steps. This could lead to a situation similar to the one when Jyotiraditya Scindia abruptly decided to part ways with the Congress in 2020.
At that time, there was also a controversy regarding the Rajya Sabha seat. Scindia wanted to be given an opportunity in the Rajya Sabha. At that time, there were elections for two Rajya Sabha seats. One seat was supposed to be given to Digvijaya Singh, and the other to Scindia. However, Kamal Nath and Digvijaya Singh then floated Priyanka Gandhi’s name, complicating the matter in a way.
About four years later, the sequence of events is being repeated. The difference is that this time Kamal Nath has staked his claim for a vacant Rajya Sabha seat in April. The deadline for nominations on this seat is February 15. Ten seats are expected to come under the Congress’s share across the country. In this election, the interesting aspect is that the former president of Congress, Sonia Gandhi, wants to go to the Rajya Sabha herself this time. Upon this revelation, Madhya Pradesh was the first to propose Sonia Gandhi to file a nomination from Madhya Pradesh.
From former Chief Minister Digvijaya Singh to State President Jitu Patwari, all the major leaders are making efforts just like they did during Sindhiya’s claim in 2020. At that time, it was about Priyanka. Although she was not supposed to come from the Rajya Sabha, she created an atmosphere. This time, Sonia Gandhi will be coming from the Rajya Sabha. Although it will be known in a day or two from which state Sonia will come to the Rajya Sabha. Rajasthan has also sent a proposal to Sonia Gandhi to fill a nomination from Rajasthan. One seat is confirmed for Congress from there as well. Now, in the current situation, only two states are secure for Sonia Gandhi. One is Rajasthan, and the other is Telangana.
Madhya Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh are not considered secure. There is more competition in Karnataka. Rajasthan appears to have a higher probability. It is close to Delhi and is a state in the Hindi belt.
