Blackpink members Lisa and Jennie stormed the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, performing on stage as solo artists for the first time. Performing on Friday and Sunday, the two brought their own style and confident hip-hop styles to one of America’s largest music festivals.
Wearing red, performing to stark red lighting, Lisa pumped up the audience with a scorching performance of ‘Drop Some Money’, twerking to the song’s intense beat. Her solo performance was a highlight in her music career after her departure from YG Entertainment in 2023.
The singer, now signed to RCA Records under Sony Music, came out with her debut studio album ‘Alter Ego’ in 2025. The 15-track album fuses elements of hip-hop, electropop, and trap and comes with collaborations such as Doja Cat, Raye, Rosalía, Tyla, Megan Thee Stallion, and Future.
Lisa has also entered the acting world, landing her first role in the Max original series ‘The White Lotus’.
Jennie, who already had her solo music career underway in 2018 with the single ‘Solo’ for YG Entertainment and Interscope, also performed her solo set at Coachella. In 2023, she also made her acting debut in The Idol, another Max series. Jennie continues to record on Interscope as part of Blackpink with Lisa, Rosé, and Jisoo.
Their solo performances point to the increasing popularity of K-pop in America. Blackpink had already made Coachella history before as the first all-female K-pop group to play the event in 2019 and subsequently becoming its first-ever K-pop headliner in 2023.
Coachella’s welcome of Korean artists has become more profound over the years. The practice started with Epik High in 2016 and has since seen performances by artists such as Aespa, DPR, ATEEZ, LE SSERAFIM, and The Rose. This year, the fans also got to enjoy performances by Enhypen, a seven-member South Korean boy band, and XG, a Japanese girl group that is resident in South Korea, whose performance was to be on Sunday.
