In a twist of events, it has emerged that Kim Soo-Hyun has defaulted on the requisite court fees for the defamation suit that he lodged against the bereaved family of late actress Kim Sae-Ron and the infamous YouTube channel Garosero Research Institute (Garo Sero).
South Korean actor Kim Soo-Hyun is in legal trouble after he was unable to pay crucial fees for his defamation suit against the relatives of deceased actress Kim Sae-Ron and YouTube channel Garosero Research Institute. The Seoul Central District Court ordered him to pay around 38 million KRW, which was crucial for continuing the lawsuit. His lawyers have asked for an extension of the deadline.
Kim Soo-Hyun FAILS to Pay Legal Fees
As reported in Soompi, the Seoul Central District Court’s 14th Civil Agreement Division had directed Kim Soo-Hyun to pay about 38 million KRW (some Rs 22,92,361) as acknowledgement and delivery fees for the present legal proceedings. These fees are an integral part of filing civil litigation, and defaulting on payment can have severe repercussions up to and including the possible dismissal of the lawsuit itself.
Court Processing Error Reduces Initial Claim
First, Kim Soo-Hyun announced he would be claiming damages worth 12 billion KRW (approximately $8.16 million USD or Rs 72,39,03,600). However, as a result of a mistake in the complaint submitted, the court processed only a claim for 11 billion KRW (approximately $7.77 million USD or Rs 66,36,30,110). The judge ordered the mistake rectified, requesting the fees be paid according to the initial claim of 12 billion KRW.
Kim Soo-Hyun Requests Deadline Extension
Up to April 16. Kim’s lawyers were reportedly said to have filed an application. For an extension of the deadline of correction. Presumably as a tactical approach to stall payment. The lawyers filed the extension application on the last day of the initial deadline.Giving the actor’s team more time. Under procedures in the courts. The plaintiff has seven days from when he received notice from the court. To correct any such mistakes. The complaint is liable to be dismissed if not corrected.
