Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia has accused the INDIA bloc of seeking to eliminate Mahatma Gandhi’s teachings of Sanatan Dharma, following the cancellation of a planned rally in Bhopal due to anticipated public backlash. He further alleged that the 140 crore citizens of India would reject the coalition’s stance.
During a press conference on Sunday, Scindia alleged, “The opposition alliance aims to undermine Sanatan Dharma, foster corruption nationwide, advocate dynastic politics, and appeasement policies. They had to cancel the event foreseeing the substantial public anger directed towards them.” He emphasised that the bloc’s agenda against the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi on Sanatan Dharma would face stiff resistance from the general populace. The minister shared these viewpoints while attending a function commemorating Vishwakarma Jayanti in Gwalior. Reacting to the INDIA bloc’s recent decision to boycott the programs of 14 television anchors, Scindia criticised the Congress party, a key member of the bloc. “Discriminating against the fourth pillar of democracy is ingrained in the Congress’s DNA. They have repeatedly undermined the Constitution,” he said.
The cancellation of the INDIA bloc rally slated for October in Bhopal became a focal point of discussions after Madhya Pradesh Congress president Kamal Nath announced the decision.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan linked the cancellation to the widespread “public anger” incited by controversial remarks from DMK leaders about Sanatan Dharma.
DMK leaders, including Udhayanidhi Stalin and A Raja, had recently compared Sanatan Dharma to diseases like dengue, malaria, and coronavirus, calling for its eradication to curb societal divisions. The controversial remarks have intensified the political climate in Madhya Pradesh, which is gearing up for Assembly polls scheduled for November this year. The ongoing developments highlight the turbulent landscape and underscore the escalating tensions between different factions in the lead-up to the elections.
