A drug trafficking operation spanning across state was dismantled on Monday when authorities apprehended three individuals in Malerkotla. Among the arrested were Javed (also known as Jaidi), Anwar Khan, and Anwar’s juvenile son, caught in possession of 2.56kg of opium and Rs 16,000 in drug-related funds.
Senior superintendent of police Harkamal Preet Singh Khakh revealed that a targeted operation, prompted by intelligence reports, was executed by Malerkotla’s Crime Investigation Agency (CIA). Inspector Harjinder Singh led the team in collaboration with Detective DSP Amarjit Singh. Their efforts uncovered the attempt by these individuals, hailing from Kolkata, West Bengal, to transport a significant opium quantity into Malerkotla.
Near the Malerkotla bus stand, law enforcement intercepted the trio, discovering the 2.56kg of opium stashed in a black bag alongside the drug money. Investigations indicated that the accused sourced the opium from West Bengal with the intention to distribute it within Malerkotla.
Charges were filed against them under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Furthermore, authorities are actively pursuing leads to apprehend other participants involved in this illicit trafficking network, as stated by the SSP.
