Launching a blistering attack on the ruling TMC in WB after Calcutta’s judgment called for the cancellation of OBC certificates issued in the states after 2010, BJP President JP Nadda declared on Thursday that the court judgment exposes the unconstitutional appeasement perpetuated by the Mamta Banerjee government.
He also said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had raised this issue during the election campaign.
“Calcutta High Court has canceled the OBC reservation given to the Muslims under the OBC quota subcategory. The Calcutta High Court has also canceled OBC certificates issued in West Bengal to Muslims from 2010 to 2024…Both of these judgments show how Mamata Banerjee’s government was taking forward appeasement unconstitutionally, or it can be said that the Muslim agenda was being taken forward… PM Modi had raised this issue during the election campaigns—how Mamata Banerjee, Rahul Gandhi, and other leaders of the INDI alliance are shredding the constitution,” said JP Nadda.
Later, he also targeted WB CM’s remark, saying she doesn’t agree with Calcutta HC’s decision.
He further attacked Bannerjee with these remarks:
“It is written clearly in the Constitution that reservations will not be given based on religion. Mamata Banerjee said that she does not agree with the decision of the High Court. There is no one above the law. PM Modi quoted the constitution and said that the reservation is not given based on religion.”
Moreover, he also attacked Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his silence on the Calcutta HC’s judgment.
Retorting that Rahul Gandhi goes around with the constitution’s copy, but when it comes to the Calcutta High Court’s decision on such matters, he’s silent. They remain silent when Muslim appeasement is exposed.
In the end, he declared that people would teach them a lesson.
In addition, he also said that the people of West Bengal will teach a lesson to Mamata Banerjee.
Earlier on Wednesday, the Calcutta HC cancelled all OBC certificates that were issued in West Bengal after 2010.
It further directed the West Bengal Backward Classes Commission to prepare a new list of OBCs according to the 1993 Act.
However, the court has clarified that those included in the list before 2010 will remain, but after 2010, these OBC nominations are canceled.
Later, reacting to the judgment, Mamta Bannerjee declared that she wouldn’t accept the court’s judgment and that OBC’s reservation would continue.
“I heard a judge passing an order who has been very famous. The Prime Minister is saying that minorities will take away the Tapasheeli reservation. Can this ever happen? Minorities can never touch the Tapasheeli or tribal reservation, but these mischievous people (BJP) get their work done through agencies; they have gotten the order through someone, but I will not accept this opinion. Those who have given the order should keep it to themselves; we will not accept the opinion of the BJP, and the OBC reservation continues and will always continue” said Mamta Bannerjee said at a poll rally in Khardah, Dumdum Lok Sabha constituency.
