The Rome Film Festival has announced that Johnny Depp will be honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award at its 2024 edition. In addition to this accolade, Depp’s latest directorial effort, Modi – Three Days on the Wing of Madness, will also be screened at the festival, according to Deadline.

About Modi

Modi depicts a “seventy-two-hour whirlwind in the life of bohemian artist Amedeo Modigliani,” exploring his tumultuous experiences in war-torn Paris in 1916. The film stars French actress Antonia Desplat and Riccardo Scamarcio alongside Depp.

The synopsis highlights Modigliani’s struggles as he evades the police while contemplating the end of his career and departure from the city. He faces resistance from fellow artists Maurice Utrillo, Chaim Soutine, and his muse, Beatrice Hastings. Seeking advice from his friend and art dealer Leopold Zborowski, Modigliani’s night of hallucinations escalates, leading to a pivotal encounter with American collector Maurice Gangnat, who could change the trajectory of his life, as noted by Deadline.

Additional Honors at the Festival

Following its premiere at the San Sebastian Film Festival, Modi will next be showcased in Rome. The festival will also honor Viggo Mortensen with a Lifetime Achievement Award, during which he will present his film The Dead Don’t Hurt.

This film tells the story of Vivienne Le Coudy, played by Vicky Krieps, who navigates a complex relationship with Danish immigrant Holgen Olsen, portrayed by Mortensen. Their love story unfolds against the turbulent backdrop of the 1860s American Civil War.

The 2024 edition of the Rome Film Festival is scheduled to run from October 16 to 27.
