Advisor to Lieutenant Governor, Rajeev Rai Bhatnagar, inaugurated the 1st edition of the Jammu Trade Fair 2024 today at Gen. Zorawar Singh Auditorium Ground, University of Jammu. Organized by the Jammu & Kashmir Trade Promotion Organization (JKTPO) from January 31st to February 4th, 2024, the fair showcases the rich culture and untapped trade potential of the Union Territory.
In his address, Advisor Bhatnagar emphasized the uniqueness and quality of products from J&K, highlighting the region’s potential for growth and success. He acknowledged the government’s comprehensive support to farmers, manufacturers, and artisans, calling the Jammu Trade Fair 2024 a significant milestone for the region. The Advisor commended the incentives for artisans and applauded the efforts of JKTPO and the Industries and Commerce department in organizing the event.
Advisor Bhatnagar discussed the One District One Product (ODOP) initiative, noting that nearly 17 products have received Geographical Indication (GI) tags, positioning J&K as a sunrise region with opportunities in every sector. He praised the cultural program and artisans for their impressive performances.
Vikramjit Singh, Commissioner Secretary, Industries & Commerce, emphasized the potential of JKTPO in fostering a business-friendly environment that supports trade and exports, contributing to J&K’s economic prosperity. He praised programs empowering local farmers, sellers, and producers and announced the event’s annual occurrence in both Jammu and Kashmir divisions.
Khalid Jahangir, Managing Director of JKTPO, expressed gratitude to Advisor Bhatnagar and highlighted the organization’s mandate to promote unique products from J&K. The event received support from various organizations and stakeholders, making it a trailblazing initiative on a revenue generation model.
The Jammu Trade Fair 2024 aims to showcase J&K’s diverse economic and cultural facets, becoming an annual fixture on fixed dates. With official approval from the Ministry of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME), Government of India, the event stands as a key platform for economic growth and cultural exchange.
Featuring over 110 stalls across various sectors, the fair highlights Handloom & Handicrafts, Horticulture, Agriculture, Fashion & Accessories, Travel and Tourism, Building Materials, Furniture, Interiors & Home Decor, and more. Sponsored by key organizations like SIDBI, NABARD, DCH, and TPCI, the event has received backing from industry giants such as JSW, Varun Beverages, Amazon, and Karcher.
