In a bid to bolster security measures, especially for individuals facing threats, the Jammu and Kashmir Police is considering a novel approach that integrates technology with physical infrastructure, officials revealed.
Director General of Police (DGP) R R Swain addressed reporters in Kathua, highlighting the envisioned strategy. “We aim to reinforce security through the adoption of technology such as CCTVs, along with physical infrastructure enhancements like security lights and sensors,” stated DGP Swain.
Emphasizing the importance of striking a balance, the DGP assured that the proposed security framework would safeguard all individuals traversing public spaces, including those deemed high-profile and at risk.
During his address at the passing out parade of 922 women constables at the police training college in Kathua, DGP Swain underscored that security should be perceived not merely as a status symbol but as an indispensable necessity.
Addressing inquiries regarding potential reductions in security detail, particularly at his residence and for other protected persons, the DGP outlined a dual approach. “Changes in the security landscape and a professional approach guide our decisions regarding security provision,” he affirmed.
Recent internal deliberations within the Jammu and Kashmir Police have signaled a downsizing of security personnel assigned to DGP Swain’s Jammu residence by one-third, aligning with broader efforts to reallocate resources for enhanced public security. Asserting the force’s commitment to prioritizing public welfare, DGP Swain highlighted efforts to communicate effectively with stakeholders. “Effective deployment of police resources ensures public security, upholds law and order, and secures key areas,” he affirmed.
Drawing parallels with security paradigms in Europe, DGP Swain envisioned a future where individual security requirements would diminish, allowing for increased mobility. However, he acknowledged that such a transition is still underway.
