A police constable in Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi district, who was booked last year under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, has been dismissed from service, an official announced on Sunday.

Senior Superintendent of Police (Reasi), Mohita Sharma, ordered the dismissal of selection grade constable Tariq Hussain Shah due to his prolonged unauthorized absence from duty and alleged involvement in drug trafficking, a police spokesperson said.

Shah was charged under sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act at Jammu’s Bakshi Nagar police station last year. In her detailed factual report, Sharma noted that the constable was found guilty of violating police rules and regulations, absenteeism, grave misconduct, indiscipline, and negligence, making him unfit to continue serving in the police department.

“The stern departmental action of dismissal has been taken after the delinquent cop did not pay heed to a series of signals, attendance notices, and show cause notices served upon him,” the spokesperson added.

This decisive action reflects the police department’s commitment to maintaining discipline and integrity within its ranks, ensuring that those involved in criminal activities are held accountable.
