On Tuesday in Ranchi, the opposition BJP organised a demonstration against the Hemant Soren-led Jharkhand government.
In an apparent demonstration against the administration, more than 100 BJP members were seen walking to the state secretariat. When the protesting employees attempted to “gherao” (around) the secretariat, police used water cannons to disperse them.When some protesters attempted to scale police barricades while others began throwing rocks at the police, the police also used a lathi-charge.
“The Soren government has failed on every front. Promises made before the elections have not fulfilled. The law and order situation is worsening day by day. This government is only resorting to appeasement. Hence, this protest march and gherao of the secretariat was called to protest the ways of functioning this government,” one of the protestors said.
Over 20 protestors were detained during the protests, informed the police.
