In a recent development, the Jharkhand High Court dismissed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Sunil Kumar Mahato against Chief Minister Hemant Soren and his relatives in connection with an alleged illegal mining case.

The court emphasized that the petition was a duplication of a previous PIL by Shiv Shankar Sharma, stating, “There’s nothing new in this PIL.” Chief Minister Hemant Soren, listed as respondent number 7 in the PIL filed by Sharma, had faced accusations of misusing his official position to secure a stone mining lease in his name in the Angara block of Ranchi.

Despite Soren having the mining lease earlier, he reapplied for it in 2021. However, when the lease was granted and brought to public attention, he subsequently surrendered it.
