As winter tightens its icy grip on the Kashmir Valley, Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, experienced the coldest night of the season, with the mercury plunging to a bone-chilling minus 4.6 degrees Celsius.
Sub-zero temperatures have been recorded across all stations in the region, signalling a notable drop in the night temperature. In Qazigund, the mercury settled at a frosty minus 2.8 degrees Celsius, while the enchanting Gulmarg witnessed a minimum temperature of minus 4.2 degrees Celsius.
Pahalgam, the renowned tourist destination, painted a wintry picture with a low of minus 5.0 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, in the northern region of Kupwara, temperatures reached a minimum of minus 3.0 degrees Celsius.The Meteorological (MeT) Department has already forecasted more rain and snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir from the 12th to the 14th of December. This anticipated weather activity is expected to further lower temperatures in the coming days, intensifying the winter chill in the picturesque valley. Residents are advised to brace themselves for colder weather and take necessary precautions as the region prepares for the onset of more wintry conditions.
