In a proactive initiative aimed at enhancing road safety and traffic discipline, the traffic police on the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway have issued an impressive total of 2300 challans within just one month. These rigorous measures form an integral part of the winter preparedness plan, designed to regulate vehicular movement and maintain order on this crucial highway during the colder months.
Rohit Baskotra, SSP Traffic National Highway, highlighted that the intensive drive led to the seizure of 80 vehicles and the initiation of five FIRs against defaulting drivers. Notably, one FIR was lodged for the illegal modification of a bus, underscoring the commitment to curbing unsafe practices on the highway.Complementing the enforcement actions, the traffic police have organized 20 awareness camps to educate drivers and promote safe driving practices. Taking a comprehensive approach, they are addressing issues such as overloading and rash driving to enhance overall road safety.
SSP Baskotra emphasized the incorporation of technological advancements in traffic management, including the deployment of four state-of-the-art vehicles equipped with automatic Number Plate scanner Cameras and speed guns. Positioned strategically between Udhampur and Banihal, these vehicles contribute significantly to the efforts to curb instances of rash driving.
As winter approaches, these measures become increasingly crucial not only for traffic regulation but also for ensuring smooth traffic flow, particularly in the face of challenges posed by snowfall.
