In a significant operation, the Srinagar Police has successfully apprehended two terrorist associates associated with the banned terror outfit LeT (Lashkar-e-Taiba) along NHW Bypass. The arrests were made during a well-coordinated operation after receiving intelligence about the movement of suspected terrorists in the area.
Acting swiftly on the received information, a joint team comprising Srinagar Police and the Quick Response Team (QRT) of CRPF established a robust checkpoint near Sham Lal Petrol Pump, N R Colony, at NHW Bypass.
The suspects, traveling in a white Santro car with registration number JK09A-2788, attempted to evade the police checkpoint upon noticing the security presence. However, the law enforcement officers tactfully apprehended them.
A subsequent search of the vehicle led to the arrest of two terrorist associates identified as Mumtaz Ahmad Lone, son of Gh Qadir Lone, resident of Trehgam Kupwara, and Jahangir Ahmad Lone, son of Gh Mohidin Lone, resident of Trehgam Kupwara. The operation yielded a significant haul of arms and ammunition, including 02 pistols, 04 magazines, 02 filler magazines, and 08 grenades.
In connection with the arrest and recovery, a case under relevant sections of the law has been registered (FIR No.128/2023) at PS Batmaloo, and investigations are underway to delve into the details of their activities and connections. The successful operation stands as a testament to the relentless efforts of the security forces in curbing terrorist activities and maintaining law and order in the region.
