Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP) leader Mohammad Saleem Parray filed his nomination papers on Friday for the Anantnag-Rajouri Lok Sabha constituency in Jammu and Kashmir, scheduled for polling in the third phase of elections on May 7.

Accompanied by DPAP chairman Ghulam Nabi Azad and other party leaders, Parray submitted his nomination papers to Deputy Commissioner Anantnag, Syed Fakhruddin, who serves as the returning officer for the constituency.

Speaking to reporters after the filing, Ghulam Nabi Azad expressed optimism about Parray’s candidacy, expressing confidence that he would effectively represent Jammu and Kashmir and its people in the Lok Sabha. Azad highlighted Parray’s legal background as an advocate, emphasizing his capability to serve the state at the national level.

Responding to questions about his decision not to contest from the seat himself despite popular support, Azad affirmed that Parray was his chosen representative, equating support for Parray with support for himself.

During an address to his supporters, Azad urged restraint and respect in political discourse, acknowledging recent verbal exchanges with other political figures, notably alluding to National Conference (NC) vice president Omar Abdullah. Azad expressed regret for any negative comments made, underlining his longstanding commitment to constructive politics and public service.

The electoral landscape for the Anantnag-Rajouri constituency has intensified with the filing of nominations. Currently, 10 candidates, including NC’s Mian Altaf and PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti, have submitted their nominations ahead of the final deadline on Friday.

The upcoming Lok Sabha elections in Jammu and Kashmir remain poised for a dynamic contest, with candidates vying to represent the diverse interests and aspirations of the electorate in the region.
