In line with the commitment to public safety and animal welfare, the Veterinary section of the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) executed a comprehensive public drive for the impounding of animals. The initiative, carried out under the guidance of Commissioner Mr. Rahul Yadav, and supervised by Dr. Divya Sharma, MVO, JMC, included counseling sessions for the general public on the responsible management of stray, pet, and large animals during the ongoing winter season.
The impounding drive covered various areas of Jammu city, encompassing Vikram Chowk, Panama Chowk, Gandhi Nagar, Trikuta Nagar, Narwal, Bhatindi, Channi Himmat, Sainik Colony, Greater Kailash, Kunjwani, among others.
During this extensive drive, the public received counseling on effective strategies for handling stray animals in winter conditions. Concerns were raised about the potential hazards of releasing animals onto the roads, leading to accidents that could adversely impact both humans and animals, especially in the prevalent foggy and winter weather. Additionally, the unrestrained movement of animals contributes to traffic congestion in different areas of Jammu city.
Dr. Divya Sharma, Municipal Veterinary Officer, appealed to the general public, especially cattle owners, to refrain from allowing their animals to roam freely on roads. She emphasized that such actions can result in damage to public properties, pose risks to citizens, and endanger the well-being of the animals themselves. Dr. Sharma issued strict instructions against those who permit their animals to roam on roads and in public spaces.
As part of the impounding drive, approximately 25 animals were successfully captured from various locations in Jammu city. Warnings and notices were issued to individuals found in violation of responsible animal ownership practices. The initiative reflects JMC’s dedication to fostering a safer and more responsible environment for both residents and animals in the city.
