The Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee (RPCC) held an urgent meeting today at its State Congress Headquarters in Jaipur, chaired by State President Govind Singh Dotasara. The meeting, which saw the participation of senior Congress leaders including Leader of Opposition Tikaram Julie, focused on key organizational issues, upcoming action plans, and concerns regarding the performance of the BJP-led state government. With tensions running high over the performance of the BJP government, the Congress party is gearing up for a month-long campaign that aims to expose the government’s failures and strengthen its position in the state ahead of upcoming political challenges.
Organizational Strategy for the Coming Month
Govind Singh Dotasara addressed the gathering, discussing the Congress Party’s plans to highlight the failures of the BJP government in Rajasthan over the next month. He outlined a campaign set to begin on December 19, 2024, targeting various sectors, including education, healthcare, law and order, and employment, where the state government is seen to be underperforming.
Dotasara emphasized that despite the BJP government’s promises through advertisements, nothing has materialized on the ground, leading to worsening conditions for the common people. He also noted that Congress will emphasize the achievements of the previous Congress government, aiming to draw a contrast with the BJP’s unfulfilled promises.
He further announced that press conferences will be organized across the state, starting with district-level events on December 20-23, and a foot march will be held on December 18 from Jaipur’s Shaheed Smarak to Raj Bhavan. This protest will target the central government’s inaction on key issues, including the investigation into allegations against industrialist Gautam Adani and ongoing violence in Manipur.
Call for Action Against BJP Failures
Dotasara emphasized the need for more accountability and announced that starting December 30, he would visit districts to meet with District Congress Committees to strengthen the party at the grassroots level. Tikaram Julie will join him for these meetings.
Julie, in his speech, supported Dotasara’s concerns about the state government not keeping its promises. He asked district in-charge officers to send local issues and public grievances so they can be raised in the state assembly. He also criticized the government for not implementing local development projects and failing to fulfill many budget announcements.
Julie emphasized the need to take organizational responsibilities seriously, highlighting that the party’s strength comes from working together to expose the BJP government’s mismanagement.
Tikaram Julie Targets BJP Over Eastern Rajasthan Canal Project
The discussion also turned to the Eastern Rajasthan Canal Project (ERCP), with Tikaram Julie sharply criticizing both the state and central governments for their handling of the project. Julie accused the central government of deliberately delaying the scheme, while also claiming that the Rajasthan government had hidden the details of the MoU signed with Madhya Pradesh from the public.
Julie pointed out that the ERCP was originally initiated by former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, who completed the construction of two dams under the project. He sarcastically noted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit on December 17 to lay the foundation stone for work already completed by the Gehlot government was a public relations move rather than a genuine initiative.
He further criticized the BJP for not fulfilling its promises to grant national project status to ERCP, despite repeated assurances. Julie accused the state government of stalling the project during the tenure of former Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje, fearing that she would get the credit for it. He also expressed frustration over the lack of transparency regarding the MoU between Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh.
Farmers, youth and women are worried
Julie raised concerns about the plight of farmers in the state, who are reportedly receiving only three hours of electricity for irrigation, while the government continues to claim progress. He also criticized the state government for its failure to provide single-phase electricity at night, its inability to deliver pensions to the poor and elderly, and the non-payment of scholarships to children. Highlighting the lack of unemployment allowances for youth, Julie emphasized that these issues need immediate attention from the state government. He accused the BJP government of being out of touch with the real needs of the people.
Future Actions and Party Unity
General Secretary and Media Incharge Swarnim Chaturvedi informed that Dotasara would hold another meeting with state office bearers on December 17 to discuss the division of work and further action plans. Additionally, a crucial meeting of the Building Construction Committee will take place later today to discuss plans for the new construction of the RPCC Headquarters.
