On Sunday, the results of the Rajasthan Assembly Elections were announced, declaring the Bharatiya Janata Party as the winner. Consequently, the Pink City Jaipur is gradually transforming with saffron hues. Saffron-coloured hoardings featuring Prime Minister Narendra Modi have adorned various parts of Jaipur city. The Rajasthan BJP has replaced the locations where posters and hoardings highlighting the seven guarantees of the Congress government were displayed until two days ago.
This has sent the message that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will select the next Chief Minister of Rajasthan. It is also clear that the high command present in the national capital, Delhi, will have control over the government.
Certainly, the BJP secured a remarkable victory in Rajasthan, attributed to Modi’s leadership and his assurances. While there are multiple contenders for the Chief Minister post, the final decision may take a day or two. Meanwhile, in Jaipur, leaders and workers are gathering at the bungalow of former Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje in Civil Lines. The winning MLAs, leaders and workers are reaching there to congratulate her. There was a gathering of media outside her house throughout the day. Being a former Chief Minister, Raje is considered a natural contender for the top post.
The other possible contenders, who are MPs, are in Delhi to participate in the winter session. These included Speaker Om Birla, Union Ministers Gajendra Singh Shekhawat and Arjun Ram Meghwal, and MPs Diya Kumari, and Rajyavardhan Rathore. They were in Delhi on Monday. Senior party leader Omprakash Mathur is being considered seriously for the CM post. Similarly, Union Railway Minister Ashwani Vaishnaw is also in active consideration. Mathur and Vaishnaw do not belong to any group in the party. Mathur has vast organisational and political experience.
As in charge of the BJP in Chhattisgarh, Mathur was instrumental in the party winning the state. He also has good relations with the central leadership of the party. There is also a discussion that the party may give a chance to any of the winning MLAs. In fact, Modi has to decide the name. Meetings are going on in Delhi. The display of saffron hues suggests Modi’s influence in selecting the next Chief Minister, emphasizing the central leadership’s control over the government. As the BJP secures a remarkable win, the final decision on the Chief Minister post is anticipated in the coming days.
