In a confidential discussion at the recent G20 summit in India, Italy’s Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni informed Chinese Premier Li Qiang of Italy’s intentions to withdraw from the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) — a signature global infrastructure project of Chinese President Xi Jinping. Italy, one of the prominent members of the G20, had officially become a part of this initiative in 2019.
