Israel’s permanent representative to the UN, Gilad Erdan, described Hamas as a terror group like “no other,” calling the attack “barbaric and a wide-scale terror attack in decades, even bigger than 9/11.” During today’s session, he criticized the Security Council for failing to label Hamas a terrorist organization due to political considerations.
“…The most barbaric and widescale terror attack in decades, bigger than 9/11, was perpetrated 11 days ago and it seems like this Council has already forgotten. The pictures and footage from the October 7 pogrom are seared into my brain, in every Israeli’s brain, forever…Thousands of barbaric Hamas Nazis invaded Israel and brutally murdered 1,400 innocent Israelis… Some were raped, others beheaded, and some were burned alive,” the Israeli envoy said.
“Many were children…Mothers watched as their babies were slaughtered…This was planned and carried out deliberately by the terrorists that rule Gaza. Not by accident, not by mistake, but deliberately…There are some here that choose not to designate Hamas as a terror organization for political reasons, it still doesn’t change the facts,” he stressed.
The deliberate targeting of civilians by Hamas, according to Erdan, “makes Hamas a terror organization no different from ISIS.” “Up until now, you haven’t even taken the simplest action. You failed to denounce Hamas’ heinous terrorist attack as a council. It is truly incomprehensible. You can’t even agree on that fundamental issue. You are not concentrated on the actions required to liberate Gaza from Hamas and put an end to the oppression of the Gazan people by their tyrants. Instead, the Council is only concerned with aid and humanitarian corridors. The envoy berated the council, saying that while these were worthy causes, they were not a way to stop Hamas from carrying out its next horrific massacre.
