The Israeli military conducted an airstrike in southern Beirut on Friday, resulting in the death of senior Hezbollah military figure Ibrahim Aqil, according to CNN. Aqil was identified as a member of Hezbollah’s elite Radwan Force.

The strike caused significant destruction in the Jamous area of Beirut’s southern suburbs, with at least two residential buildings collapsing, as reported by CNN. Rescue efforts are currently underway, with specialized teams working to locate and rescue individuals trapped under the debris. Lebanon’s civil defense has urged residents to evacuate the affected area.

Lebanon‘s health ministry confirmed that at least nine people have died and 58 others have been injured as a result of the strike. Of those hospitalized, at least eight are in critical condition.

The airstrike reportedly flattened a multistory building in a residential neighborhood, according to CNN. Sources informed CNN that the primary target of the strike was Ibrahim Aqil, and the attack led to the deaths of at least eight people and injured dozens more.
