The Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) stated on Monday that its agents had apprehended a suicide bomber who was a member of the Islamic State terrorist organisation and was preparing a terrorist assault against a member of India’s ruling elite.

“Russia’s FSB identified and detained a member of the Islamic State international terrorist organisation banned in Russia, a native of a country in the Central Asian region, who planned to commit a terrorist act by blowing himself up against one of the representatives of the ruling circles of India,” the authorities said in a statement.

According to the statement, one of the IS leaders in Turkey recruited those arrested to carry out suicide bombings.

More details regarding this story are awaited as it is still developing.

The Central Government has designated Islamic State and all of its incarnations as Terrorist Organizations and added them to the First Schedule of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967.

The Home Ministry claims that IS spreads its ideas through a variety of online social media channels. The relevant agencies are closely monitoring cyberspace in this regard, and appropriate legal action is being taken.
