Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and Foreign Minister Amir-Abdollahian died in a helicopter crash caused by heavy fog in a mountainous area. The helicopter, which was carrying Raisi and his delegation, went down on Sunday in the Dizmar forest, located between the cities of Varzaqan and Jolfa in East Azarbaijan Province, according to state media outlet Press TV.
Other individuals on board included East Azarbaijan Governor Malek Rahmati, the Friday Prayers leader of Tabriz, Seyyed Mohammad Ali Al-e Hashem, a member of the president’s security team, Mahdi Mousavi, as well as the helicopter’s pilot, co-pilot, and crew.
The process of retrieving the mortal remains of the deceased is currently underway.
