In wake of the involvement of sophisticated arms by various accused in burglaries and murders, the Delhi Police on Tuesday arrested an illegal arm supplier and recovered eight pistols and ten live rounds of ammunition from his possession. The accused, Sonu (32), a resident of Hapur, U.P., a key member of the gang supplying illegal arms, was involved in supplying illegal arms for the last year and had supplied around forty pistols this year.
Alok Kumar, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Special Cell, Southern Range, said that the accused was previously involved in many robberies, murders, and drug trafficking and was out on bail. After this, he started supplying illegal arms in Delhi and nearby areas. He used to purchase a semi-automatic pistol for Rs 8,000 from M.P. and used to sell it for Rs 25,000 in Delhi, added Kumar.
According to police, during interrogation, the accused disclosed that after being released from Chattisgarh jail, he started supplying illegal arms from Burhanpur, M.P., as he earned huge profits. He also disclosed that he brought eight pistols from a person named Ramesh Sardar and was to deliver them to a person named Aalam in Delhi. He has supplied around forty semi-automatic pistols this year, according to the accused.
Police said that they are making efforts to nab the other two accused, the supplier and the person to whom he was to deliver the weapons, to dismantle the illegal arms supplier nexus in Delhi, NCR.
