External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has recently rejected Joe Biden’s Xenophobia comment. Which said the economic growth of South Asia is hobbling due to the presence of “xenophobia.”

Speaking at the round table hosted by ET newspaper Mr Jaishankar said India’s economy is not in the stage of faltering and historically India has been a very open society.

“First of all, our economy is not faltering,” … “India is always… India has been a very unique country… I would say actually, in the history of the world, that it’s been a society which has been very open… different people from different societies come to India said S Jaishankar.

Speaking further about this comment the foreign minister said that we have brought CAA which is to give shelter to people who are in trouble. And further elaborated that India should be open to people who need it or have a claim to come to India.

“That’s why we have the CAA (Citizenship Amendment Act), which is to open up doors for people who are in trouble … I think we should be open to people who have the need to come to India, who have a claim to come to India.” said Jaishankar while talking about CAA law.

Earlier this week, while addressing the fundraising event for his 2024 re-election and marking the start of Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, the American president Joe Biden opined that the reason why the country is growing is because we are welcoming to immigrants.

And while arguing about the advantages of migration for US economy, Joe Biden also said that it is “xenophobia” which is holding back China, Japan and India’s economic growth.

Thus, triggering push back from India’s external minister.
