India’s Covid tally races past 62-lakh mark

Number of recoveries surges to 51,87,825, pushing the recovery rate to 83.33%.

India’s Covid-19 caseload raced past the 62-lakh mark with 80,472 infections being reported in a day, while the number of recoveries surged to 51,87,825 pushing the recovery rate to 83.33%. The total number of coronavirus cases mounted to 62,25,763, while the death toll climbed to 97,497 with 1,179 people succumbing to the disease in a day. There are 9,40,441 active cases of coronavirus infection in the country which comprises 15.11% of the total caseload. 

Meanwhile, The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) came out with its Unlock 5 set of guidelines allowing cinemas, theatres, multiplexes and entertainment parks to open from 15October. 

India’s worst affected state Maharashtra reported 18,317 new Covid-19 cases, 481 deaths and 19,163 discharges in the last 24 hours. The total cases in the state rose to 13,84,446, including 36,662 deaths and 10,88,322 discharges. Active cases now stand at 2,59,033. Meanwhile, the Maharashtra government extended coronavirus-induced lockdown till October 31, but also said that hotels, restaurants and bars will be allowed to operate from October 5 with restricted capacity. The national capital reported 41 Covid-19 fatalities in the last 24 hours, taking the count to 5,361, while 3,390 fresh cases pushed the tally to over 2.79 lakh.

 1,005 more people tested positive for Covid-19 in Uttarakhand in the last 24 hours,taking the state’s infection tally to 49,000 while 20 more persons died of the disease at different hospitals in the state. Meanwhile, 20 more Covid patients died in the state taking the toll to 611. 

Haryana reported 1,625 Covid-19 cases, 2,063 recoveries and 26 deaths in the last 24 hours, taking total cases to 128,599 with 112,877 recoveries, 1,382 deaths and 14,340 active cases. Madhya Pradesh recorded 2,004 new coronavirus cases, pushing its caseload to 1,28,047, while 35 fresh deaths took the count to 2,316. 

The Covid-19 tally in Gujarat rose to 1,37,394 with the addition of 1,390 cases. The death toll in the state rose to 3,453 as 11 patients succumbed to the infection. The number of recovered cases reached 1,17,231 after 1,372 more patients got discharge from hospitals. With this, the state’s recovery rate now stands at 85.32%. 

Andhra Pradesh recorded 6,133 new Covid-19 cases, 7,075 recoveries and 49 deaths in the last 24 hours which pushed the state’s tally to 693,484. With this, the active cases have climbed to 58,445. Kerala reported a record single-day high of 8,830 new Covid-19 cases, taking the total infection count to 1,95,106. 

Tamil Nadu reported 5,659 new Covid-19 cases, taking the tally to 5,97,602 while the death toll mounted to 9,520 with 67 more fatalities. Active cases stood at 46,263 with 5,610 patients getting discharged from various hospitals in the state and in total 5,41,819 people recovered.
