Seventeen-year-old Neha Thakur emerged as the star of the show, securing a silver medal, while Eabad Ali added to India’s medal tally with a bronze in the sailing competition at the Asian Games held on Tuesday.
Neha’s exceptional performance earned India its first medal of the day as she clinched second place in the girl’s dinghy ILCA-4 event. She finished with a total of 32 points, but her net score of 27, calculated by subtracting her worst race result, secured her the second spot. The gold medal in this category went to Noppassorn Khunboonjan of Thailand, while Singapore’s Kiera Marie Carlyle settled for a bronze with a net score of 28.
In the men’s windsurfer RS:X event, Eabad Ali proudly claimed a bronze medal with a net score of 52 points.
He finished behind Natthaphong Phonoppharat of Thailand and the gold medallist, Wonwoo Cho of Korea. This event involved a grueling 14-race competition, where Ali’s worst race results were a second and a third place, and seven points were deducted from his total of 59 points. Ultimately, there was a significant 23-point gap between Ali and the silver medalist.
Neha Thakur and Eabad Ali showcased their remarkable sailing skills, bringing home two well-deserved medals for India.
Neha, a rising star from the National Sailing School in Bhopal, proved her mettle in the ILCA-4 category, which consists of 11 races. Her net score of 27 in the competition was instrumental in securing India’s silver medal.
