Amidst the challenges posed by inclement weather and the closure of vital roadways, the Indian Air Force (IAF) continues its tireless efforts to assist stranded passengers in the union territories of Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh. On Monday, the IAF successfully airlifted a total of 260 passengers, providing crucial connectivity between these regions.
Since its inception on January 22, in response to the closure of the Srinagar-Leh national highway due to heavy snowfall, the AN-32 aircraft, affectionately known as the “Kargil courier,” has been instrumental in facilitating the transportation of stranded individuals. With a total of 1,551 passengers airlifted thus far, the service has proven to be a lifeline for those marooned by adverse weather conditions.
Operating on a schedule of three days a week between Jammu and Srinagar, and twice a week between Srinagar and Kargil, the Kargil courier service acts as a vital link for remote regions, ensuring essential connectivity despite the challenges posed by harsh winter conditions.
In Monday’s operation, a total of 113 passengers were transported from Srinagar to Kargil, addressing the pressing need for transportation in the region. Simultaneously, 93 passengers were airlifted from Jammu to Kargil, further underscoring the commitment of the IAF to support communities in need.
Recognizing the significance of this airlift service, passengers expressed gratitude for the timely assistance provided by the Indian Air Force. For many, the airlift represents not only a means of transportation but also a beacon of hope during challenging times.
As the winter season persists and the need for transportation remains high, the Indian Air Force reaffirms its commitment to serving the people of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
