YouTuber Savukku Shankar was arrested by Coimbatore police on Saturday under multiple sections of the law, including those under the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Harassment of Woman Act and the Information Technology Act.

A team of police officers from Coimbatore reportedly traveled to Theni and apprehended Shankar in the early hours of Saturday, acting on a complaint against him for making allegedly ‘obscene’ remarks about women police officers during a recent interview.

Shankar is set to appear before a local judge in the city and is expected to be remanded in Coimbatore central prison, according to sources.

However, en route to Coimbatore, the vehicle carrying Shankar and other policemen was involved in an accident in Dharapuram. Shankar and two other officers suffered minor injuries and were promptly taken to a nearby private hospital for treatment. After receiving initial medical aid, Shankar was transported to Coimbatore.

The charges against Shankar include sections of IPC such as 294(b) (related to obscene acts and songs), 509 (pertaining to words or actions intended to insult the modesty of a woman), and 353 (involving assault or criminal force against a public servant to deter them from performing their duty). Additionally, he was charged under section 4 of the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Harassment of Woman Act and section 67 of the Information Technology Act of 2000, as stated by the Coimbatore city police on their official social media handle.
