PM Modi To Meditate At Kanyakumari’s Vivekananda Memorial Rock

On May 30, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to make a significant visit to Kanyakumari, located in Tamil Nadu. This visit holds particular importance as it precedes the declaration of India’s Lok Sabha poll results on June 4.

It is reported that he will spend two days there, engaging in meditation at the esteemed Vivekananda Rock Memorial, a site dedicated to honoring the legacy of Swami Vivekananda.

Even before, he engaged in meditation at locations such as Kedarnath in preparation for the 2019 Lok Sabha election results.

Significance Of This Location

It is widely believed that Swami Vivekananda, before departing for his momentous speech at the Parliament of the World’s Religions in Chicago in 1893, engaged in deep meditation on this rock. This act, attributed to him, led to the naming of this location in his honor as the Vivekananda Memorial Rock.

The Vivekananda Rock Memorial, a creation of the celebrated architect Eknath Ranade, stands majestically on an island rock in the midst of the meeting point of the Arabian Sea, the Bay of Bengal, and the Indian Ocean, representing the unity of the three oceans and the harmony of diverse cultures and religions in India.

The memorial also houses a statue of Vivekananda and the Vivekananda Kendra, which promotes spiritual and cultural education, making it a center for learning and introspection.

It is a major tourist attraction drawing visitors from across the world to experience its serene ambiance, panoramic views of the ocean, and the memorial dedicated to Swami Vivekananda. The area also has a functioning lighthouse, frequented by tourists.

For many, the rock symbolizes courage, introspection, and the pursuit of knowledge, serving as an inspiration for individuals seeking spiritual enlightenment and inner peace.

How To Reach The Island?

Visitors can access the memorial by embarking on a brief boat journey, which is facilitated by the local authorities. This service is operational from the early hours of the morning until late afternoon, providing ample time for exploration.

An intriguing aspect is that the ticket for the boat ride encompasses not only the transportation but also grants entry to the memorial itself and other adjacent tourist attractions, offering a comprehensive and convenient experience for visitors.
