Another protesting farmer from Punjab has allegedly died by suicide by consuming poisonous substance at Shambhu border point on Thursday morning. The deceased farmer has been identified as Resham Singh (55) of Pahuwind village of Tarn Taran district. Soon after he consumed the poison, he was taken to a hospital in Rajpura and later he was rushed to Rajindra hospital in Patiala where he was declared dead by the doctors.
In a statement to media persons the farmer said that he has taken the extreme step out of frustration as the government was not taking any step to resolve farmers issues after several months. “I consumed salphose to end my life because the union government has no concerns with the farmers,” he said, expressing despair over the ongoing agitation which will complete 11 months on January 13.
He has told the journalists that he has consumed salphose and wanted to commit suicide. The doctors said that the treatment is going on and his condition was critical.
This is the another such incident as a 57-year-old farmer Ranjodh Singh from Ratanheri village of Ludhiana, who allegedly attempted suicide at the Shambhu border during the farmers’ protest on December 14, died at the Government Rajindra Hospital in December 18.
Meanwhile, the Fast Unto Death  by farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal at Khanauri border has completed one and half month on Thursday and his condition was also critical as he is unable to talk.  Resham Singh and Ranjodh were among the hundreds of farmers from Punjab who were protesting at the Shambhu border under the banner of Samyukta Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha since February 13 for their demands including a guaranteed Minimum Support Price after Haryana police did not allow them to proceed for Delhi.
